ProgramsMustang Trot: A Meadows tradition, the PTA organizes this event to raise funds to support our school. This is our children’s chance to make a difference and help raise money for our school. Using pledge cards, the children run laps on the school campus. After-School Enrichment: The Meadows Elementary PTA offers an after school program, the goal of which is to provide our children the opportunity to supplement and enrich their current educational experiences in a familiar and safe environment. All classes are held at Meadows and are available to our students in grades K-5. A Program Coordinator and Program Assistants are on-site to supervise all aspects of the enrichment program. Classes in the past have included Art, Chess, Lego Building, Drama, Basketball, Science, Musical Theater, Tennis, Woodchucks Woodworking, Spanish, Sewing, Music, Golf and Dance. Registration for each session is held during the Fall, Winter and Spring. Book Fair: An annual opportunity to restock our libraries (home, class and school) with fabulous books at great prices. Buy Meadows Gear Online: Visit http://www.cafepress.com/meadowsschool. Camp Expo: A 13-year Meadows tradition. We bring together more than 50 Summer camp and vacation vendors for one day at the Manhattan Beach Middle School. This is a Manhattan Beach community event that brings families together with camp counselors. It is a fun day of entertainment and performances, and it gives the parents insight into the various camps available for the summer. Halloween Carnival: A Meadows tradition to welcome new and returning students and their families. Held in the Fall, this family event invites all to come and enjoy great food, games and entertainment. Costumes are welcome! Family Portraits: Plan for your Holiday photo greeting cards in September. Look for information on scheduling your professional portraits at the beach or Polliwog Park. For photo questions, call 310-640-7212 or Karen@jwpartypictures.com. Growing Great Nutrition: A three-pronged approach to teaching healthy eating habits.
Planet Pals: This program aims to raise environmental awareness at Meadows Elementary. Reduce, reuse and recycle everyday! Pride Days: Sweeping, cleaning, planting to help maintain and beautify our school at Fall and Spring Pride Days. Watering and weeding year round. Reflections: This National PTA arts program allows students to express themselves through musical composition, photography, visual arts, and literature. Visual and Performing Arts: “Walk Through California” and “Walk Through the American Revolution,” presented by California Weekly Explorer Inc., are favorites among our 4th and 5th Graders. These two and a half hour presentations, known as “Walk Through Programs,” bring out life social studies using role play, vocabulary words, music and active participation of all students. Yearbook Publication: The PTA staffs and produces this annual project. Class photographers for each room capture those special moments throughout the year. It’s all about the memories. Young at Art: Young At Art is an enrichment program through which children in grades K - 8 have the opportunity to create six rich and meaningful art projects over the course of each school year. During each approximately one-hour session, students learn about different artists, the associated art history, and a wide variety of media and techniques. Students are taught by trained, parent volunteer art docents and assisted by other volunteers, who direct students in the process of creating their own, original works based on the artistic styles presented. If you are interested in becoming a docent for a classroom or just volunteering to help out in the classroom, please contact Erin De Baets. Strings: Our popular Strings program is available to 3rd – 5th graders and is generously funded by the Manhattan Beach Education Foundation (MBEF). Meadows students are given the opportunity to learn violin, viola, cello and bass. Many opportunities are available to students including specialized classes, Fiddle Club, and Honor Strings. Science Lab: Meadows hands-on science program continues to get better each year. With a generous donation from MBEF, all students will explore the lab throughout the year with our dedicated science specialist. Meadows continues to rely on our dedicated parent volunteers to help maintain our quality education in the lab. Each grade's curriculum focuses on bringing the California State standards to life making learning more engaging and inspiring wonder in our young scientists’ minds. Using microscopes and other lab tools, hands-on labs can include dissections, chemical compound mystery investigations, animal life cycle journeys, electrical component and circuit explorations and so much more. Stay tuned for more details on lab hours and our new science specialist, Joanne. Any questions or if you’d like to volunteer in the lab, please contact Jeanne Reed, jeannereed1@yahoo.com.
