SKECHERS Pier to Pier (P2P) Friendship Walk - MANY MANY THANKS

MANY MANY THANKS to everyone who supported the Skechers Pier to Pier Walk last week. It was an overall record-breaking year for donations (Meadows donated $4,260 alone!) and we anticipate a very generous match from the Skechers Foundation.
Special thanks to those of you that battled the crowds and came down to walk. It was a blast and the kids had a great time! There is nothing more heartening than being in the company of 10,000+ friends, neighbors and strangers - walking together, raising money for our schools and children with special needs in our community.

The 12th Diary of a Wimpy Kid book, The Getaway, will be released on Mon. 11/6. Meadows families can pre-order the book this week and it will be delivered to your child's classroom on the release date! Easy shopping for
you and a percent of sales go to Meadows. Pre-order online here today.

Meadows Library will once again be creating a Gratitude Stack with our students.  You can help by donating your UNCUT pumpkins to the library.
Please drop them off anytime on the bench outside of the library.  Please email our librarian, Chris Primm at with any questions. THANKS!

Finally!  The Meadows E-Directory has been updated for the 2017-18 School Year. Thank you for your patience!  If you already have an account, you do not need to do anything; just log in as usual and you will see the updated data.  New families should have received an email inviting them to create an account.  Please see the attached flyer for further information.

Instead of throwing out your leftover candy, we have a chance to donate it to poor children in the Philippines - this is the only candy these children might get the whole year.  Each child gets three or four pieces, making sure their teeth are not being harmed.

Meadows Parents! Meadows PTA is looking for volunteers to help plan Meadows' Camp Expo, which is one of our most important fundraisers of the year. Last year Camp Expo raised over $14,000, all of which directly  supported student curriculum and programs.

MBEF is pleased to continue funding programs that will inspire change and nurture a productive and honest dialogue in our schools through the 2017/18 Social Inclusion Grants. Originally initiated by Malissia and Ron Clinton in 2015, the Social Inclusion Grants help bridge the racial divide and create a more inclusive and supportive environment for our children that celebrates and respects diversity - racial, ethnic, religious, sexual, economic and cultural.

Donations, especially paper towels, pipe cleanders, glue sticks, glue gun sticks, and tape are much appreciated. In addition to instructional labs during class time, Meadows also offers Open Labs. The October theme is Lights and Costumes! Make costumes, props, and decor from a variety of materials ... and light it up with LEDs! Just in time for Halloween! Due to popular demand, we are adapting the schedule to accommodate more of our enthusiastic Makers. See this week's Open Lab times below:
Wednesday lunch-recess (grades 2-5), Thursday (grade 1 only)

Families Connected Parent Chat

What's the question we've been hearing most frequently from parents at all SBFC Partner schools? How can we help our kids use technology and navigate social media in a healthy way. This month the Families Connected project has some great tools and education events to help you do just that.  Click HERE for more information.

Our Mustangs have run 1,286 miles so far! Six kids already ran a marathon, which means six new pairs of shoes will be donated through the "Kids Helping Kids" Program.
If a Mustang runs in a local race, they can get Run Club mileage credit in Stridetrack. Bring proof of registration to a Run Club parent volunteer.

These classes had the highest participation in the last 2 weeks:

1st place TIE: Radl & Legaspi 52%
2nd: Yates 48%
3rd: Markoff 42%

To help ensure the safety during morning drop off at Rowell Ave, the champions of character need one parent to assist each morning. Every class is assigned 2-3 weeks throughout the school year.

LIL: Lunchtime in the Library

LIL  Lunchtime in the Library is a new, monthly program in the library for third, fourth, and fifth graders.  Interested students will finish their lunch in the cafeteria and then join Mrs. Primm for some self-guided literary activities.  Activities might include writing a cartoon, creating a bookmark, or joining a book discussion.  Please encourage your child to check it out on December 6, 2016.  Email Mrs. Primm with any questions. Click here for the flyer.

Meadows e-Directory

Last year we introduced the Meadows e-Directory which is an app where you will find Meadows family contact info, teacher class lists, sponsor info, etc.  Many of you downloaded the app (which works with iPhone and Android devices) and created an account last year; if you already have an account, you do not need to do anything new for this year.  Just log in as usual and the directory information will be updated for the 2016-2017 school year.

If you are new to Meadows, you should have received an email from DirectorySpot with directions on how to create an account.

Grades of Green Tip of the Week

10/21/17 - Here's an easy way to green your Halloween: If you are planning to compost your pumpkins after Halloween, carve them instead of decorating them with paint!
There are some ingredients in paint that will not work for composting.

Please see below for past Grades of Green Tips:

10/18/2017 - Save money AND help save the planet by bringing your reusable water bottle to the HALLOWEEN HAUNT on Friday! You can refill your bottle with filtered water for FREE at our Grades of Green WATER BOTTLE REFILL STATION.
