Emergency Kit
Dear Parents,
We would like each student to have a personal emergency kit for the classroom in
the event of an emergency, such as an earthquake. This years, parents have the
option of purchasing the kit, courtesy of PTA. You will receive a hardcopy form
on the first day of school with ordering information. (Cost $12 or $14. Shelf
Life: 5 Years.)
Or, you may fill a one-gallon size storage bag with some items that may be
helpful in case your child has to be at school for a prolonged amount of time.
(The items must fit inside the bag provided.) Some ideas include the following:
- Bottled water (2)
- Canned meats (chicken, tuna, etc.) or protein bar
- Granola bars, fruit snacks, trail mix, canned fruit (no peanuts, please).
- Plastic spoons (if needed)
- Optional: Mylar “SpaceBlanket”. It is folded into quite a small square and can
provide warmth and cover from rain if necessary.
Note: The food items should be non-perishable. Please do not include any glass
or juice boxes (they leak.)
In addition, please include a little note/letter that may provide your child
with that extra comfort/security. A family picture might also be helpful.
The emergency kits will be stored in the classroom and returned at the end of
the year, including the kit that lasts five years. You may re-send the kit in
the ensuing years. Your child WILL NOT be permitted to take something from the
kit if s/he forgets a snack or wants a drink. The kits are for true emergencies
only.
Please put your child’s emergency kit together and return as soon as possible.
Thank you in advance for helping to make sure that your child is taken care of
in the event of an emergency. If you have any questions, please feel free to
contact your child’s teacher.
Please be assured that, in addition, our PTA has provided Meals-Ready-to-Eat, as
well as bottled water to sustain our children for several days. We thank all our
parents and teachers for their contributions to PTA, which make these very
necessary provisions available to our children in case of an emergency.
Sincerely,
The Meadows Staff
