GO GREEN!

We at Meadows, and our entire district, have chosen to “Go Green” as much as possible within our schools. Our weekly Tuesday envelopes have been reduced to once a month, with most communication being via email and through the PTA website. Educating both our parents and students about how to be more earth-friendly is key to reducing costs and helping our environment for future generations. Our Green Group is called Planet Pals. Anyone interested in helping can contact Kari Carpino or Becky McCalla.

We’ve implemented the following programs...

TRASH-FREE TUESDAYS

During Tuesday lunches, we have parent volunteers at school to help kids recycle, compost and minimize our trash output. We also circulate amongst the kids to talk with them about why it’s important to do this.

BIODEGRADABLE LUNCH TRAY
These new “earth friendly” trays are made without chemicals from renewable resources and designed to biodegrade.

ON-CAMPUS COMPOSTING

We are working with the Growing Great group to compost leftover fruits, vegetables and weeds from the school garden on-campus.

RECYCLING EDUCATION
Ms. Cozens, our Science Specialist, did a unit on decomposition in the Fall which ties in perfectly with our composting and recycling efforts. We are working with Waste Management to tailor even more science education focusing on the processes of recycling and composting – and what they mean to the earth. You can help at home by talking about the recycling symbol and “recycling” clothes/toys/books to the charity of your choice.

RECYCLING ELECTRONICS VIA FLIPSWAP
Meadows is a Flip Swap drop spot so all parents and community members can safely recycle their old cell phones and small electronics. Even better, our school earns money for each item recycled. For a full list of eligible items, please click here. The drop box is in the office. You can also go to the FlipSwap site to get a mailing label if you want to ship the item yourself for free. Click here to see the Meadows page for FlipSwap.

RECYCLING BATTERIES & PRINTER INK CARTRIDGES & MORE

There are boxes in the office to safely dispose of batteries and ink cartridges, which should never go into the regular trash.
